Lecture 1 – Scope of the Class


This 10-week course for non-science majors focuses on a single problem: assessing the risk of human-caused climate change. The story ranges from physics to chemistry, biology, geology, fluid mechanics, and quantum mechanics, to economics and social sciences. The class will consider evidence from the distant past and projections into the distant future, keeping the human time scale of the next several centuries as the bottom line. The lectures follow a textbook, “Global Warming, Understanding the Forecast,” written for the course. For information about the textbook, interactive models, and more, visit: forecast.uchicago.edu

    The Huffington Post recently deleted many of my posts, and then it removed my profile, Xarkonul, even though I had in no way violated The Huffington Post’s stated guidelines. Even if The Huffington Post has the legal right to censor whomever it pleases, those in charge there should at least clarify in their guidelines that they censor people with whom they disagree ideologically.     Thank you so much for posting this on YouTube, found it twince in less accessible formats on the web before, but it sure is sad that you havent made it available in higher resolution. Even the large lettered Global Warming that is on the board in the beginning is difficult to read

    An excellent resource for a grounding in the science of climate change. If you think the climate is changing but don’t understand how, this is a great introduction.
    Highly recommended.

    What a fucking idtiot you are… mayve you should start by shaving that silly beard, you look like a catholic priest or rabbi with a broomstick in his a… And interestingly, your bibliography doesn’t include a single SCIENCE book, but hysterical apocalytpical scenarios by journalists…
